Ripyl Innovation Challenge

FREE National High School Business Challenge

This is a FREE challenge running across New Zealand high schools in Term 4, 2025. Student teams work to design a fictional fundraiser for their school. Each team will select an event type before developing the design of their fundraiser. Teams will identify stakeholders, estimate costs and pricing, calculate potential funds that could be raised, and create an advert to promote the event, before presenting their final idea.  

The challenge provides a great opportunity for students to apply business concepts in a practical way, while developing skills such as problem-solving, financial decision-making, collaboration, and communication skills.

How it works 

Teachers will register via the link below, and access further information about the challenge through Ripyl’s secure online platform. Within the platform, teachers can access a slide deck that has been provided to support students to put their presentation together. Teachers will also have access to the Ripyl team within the platform, for any questions during the challenge.   

Students are provided the fictional scenario below:  

Your school is getting ready to decide on what it will run as its next fundraiser to purchase a new set of devices for the computer lab. Student teams have been asked to help design an ideal event. 

Students will work through the following four steps as they design their ideal event: 

  • Step 1: Choose your event type 

  • Step 2: Understand your stakeholders 

  • Step 3: Set your prices & calculate funds raised 

  • Step 4: Advertise your event 

Students will then pitch their fundraiser idea and upload a recording. 

Note: The challenge has been designed for flexible use; you could either run this in class or students can work independently, depending on your curriculum and time requirements. 

Submission details 

Submission: Recorded videos to be uploaded by teachers directly within the platform 

Submission format: Recorded video, 2-5 minutes 

Final submission due: 5pm Wednesday 19 November 2025 

 

Prizes

Grand prize: 1-year Ripyl School Subscription (valued at $1,250) + iPad (or equivalent) for teacher + $1,000 for the students on the winning team 

Runner up: $500 for the students on the winning team 

Results will be announced Wednesday, 26 November 2025. The winning team will be contacted via their teacher.
